I came across this event in a magazine. It took place in Berlin in Germany on September the 2nd, 1000 ice figures were placed on the steps of a concert hall. The figures slowley melted throughout the day. The world wildlife awareness fund who organised the event is hoping to raise awareness about global warming through it.
I also came across a project called ‘northwest artists respond to global warming’. The people behind this project were motivated by the image of a mutant smiley face from 1976, ’Nuclear power, nein dranke’. They decided art was the way to influence and change the world. They managed to get a handful of artists together with 16 high school students for a week to come up with some stong images surronding Global warming which i have shown below.

Dialouge 2002, Michele Glazer, poet in collaboration with Elizabeth Hendren, Wilson High (11th grade) Megan Statman (11th grade) Molly Sultant, Sunset High (9th grade)

Global warming shirts 2002, Buster Simpson, Public space artist in collaboration with Marcie Krieble, Forest Grove High (11th grade) Nick O’Connor, Science Park (11th grade) Kateyn Toth-fejel, Wilson High (12th grade)
On September the 24th 2009, Sand artist Sudarsahn Patnaik created a 7 foot high 7 tonne sculpture which took him 2 days, on a beach in India to bring attention to Global warming, “For last two years, everywhere I heard about the issues of global warming and climate change, so I started working on these issues,” he said. He also says the costal heritage sites in India are under threat from the rising sea levels and after 14-15 years doing sand art he has notice the change in the sea level.

I have also come asross a number of other images and art works surronding the issue of Global warming (some i could not find the artists name)

Altogether Global warming is appearing more and more in art around the world as it is coming to the attention of everyone more frequently.
What do you think of the issue of global warming and how does it affect your own art work?
Maybe it is subconcisiously appearing in your work?
